Losing It...

I may be losing my mind.

For real. I told Ben yesterday that I'm probably going to end up with Alzheimer's and he's going to have to come visit me everyday and read me our love story and then occasionally, I'll remember...but it won't last long...and then one night he'll crawl into my hospital bed and the Lord will call us home together...at the exact same time. Sound like a movie?!? I need to watch The Notebook again...

Anyways...I joke. Sort of.

I have become a total space-case this week. I blame Michael Phelps and the USA gymnastics teams for keeping me up so late. Shame on them.

Earlier this week I drove to Wal-Mart. It takes about 20-25 minutes from tiny-town. My boys act like it takes days. Seriously. So we get to Wal-Mart, and before we get out of the van, I check my purse and realize that my billfold is in my other purse...hanging by the door at home. Nice. So we drive back to tiny-town.

On the way back home, I decide that I should get the boys swim stuff too since we'll go straight from (our 2nd) trip to Wal-Mart to swim lessons. Get home, run in and grab suits and towels, back to van and we get to the edge of tiny-town and I REMEMBER that I STILL did not grab my billfold. Back to house. Again.

By this time, my kids are seriously sick of me. I am apologizing/kicking myself and trying to figure out what the heck is wrong with me!!

That happened on Monday.

Yesterday, (Wednesday) Eli had his Kindergarten check-up (4 shots.) His older brother, Noah, who went through this routine last year has been graciously telling him how horrible it is going to be. Being the good mommy that I am, I bribed Eli with the wonderful idea of going to Wal-Mart and letting him choose a (cheap) toy after his shots. HOWEVER, we get to the clinic and low and behold, guess who's billfold is not in her purse?!? Yep. It's at home. Again. Meltdowns follow...by both Eli and myself.

Now you're thinking my Alzheimer's situation is a little more likely, aren't ya?!?

Told you.

So, my bloggy friends, whose minds are still in tact...what do I do?!? How do I get my mind back?!? :) Really. Help me.

  1. Sarah - LOL! I have done the same type of thing before, thought maybe it was JUST me :)
I blame it on lack of sleep when it happens to me, because really what can we blame it on? MOM syndrome.....God bless and have a good day!

  2. Oh, I blame the children entirely. Before SS#1 was born, I was sharp as a tack. When he was about 2 years old, I started to regain some of my lost brain. When he was in kindergarten, we were blessed with The Manimal. He took what was left and has yet to return it.

  4. Maybe you need a fanny pack to carry your wallet in, haha! : )On the bright side, it's an easy way to save money!

  5. Don't feel bad, yesterday I was talking on the phone with my mother in law when i suddenly realized my baby was no where to be found. I frantically ran through the house yelling for her and after a few moments of thinking the worst, I remembered I had laid her down for a nap a few minutes prior! But, on a serious not, if you are drinking diet coke...stop, studies show it screws up your short term memory!

  6. I blame the Olympics also. I have been a mess this week. Last night I couldn't tape the men's gymnastics but I still went to sleep without seeing the end. I couldn't endure another day of "sorry kids, I am too tired to...(um, everything!)"

  7. I hadn't heard the Diet Coke theory before. Wonder if it's true.

I was always in a panic, trying to find things. Now I make sure everything has a place (or at least I TRY). I have worked hard to make sure I put things in the same place so they're easier to grab. I also did great for a while in getting myself organized the night before, but I've been slack on that lately. I think the summer time is just a time to be slack.

Once the Olympics are over & school's back, I'll do better. So will you ;D

  8. Maybe stick to one purse until the Olympics are over? :)

  9. Whenever that happens to me, I know I need to cut out the multitasking for a few days to let my brain reboot. It's usually because I've got too many plates spinning.

For what it's worth, I share the laughter and the frustration.

  10. I did almost the same thing, it takes me an hour to get to "town" once I get to the atm I discover a lack of wallet, drive an hour home then back again, great day two days later make the drive to town again and I have a wallet but no checks. Good Times

  11. Oh, girl, I'm laughing too hard to give you any concrete help. Sorry! I'm sure it isn't (or wasn't at the time) funny to you...but I've been there, so I know how you feel.

  12. I don't know if there's anything you can do. I'm convinced most of my brain cells exited my body when my little girl was born.

I'm still waiting for them to come back.

  13. I hate to mention this possibility, but this happened to me in the early stages of pregnancy.....

  17. In the words of Karen Carpenter, "It's only just begun," oh wait ... I forget ... oh yeah, it's actually, "we've only just begun," which now doesn't relate to your question or post.

What were we talking about? I don't remember.

  18. Here is the truth. It doesn't get any better. I know. Bummer.
Oh, the stories I could tell.

  19. *sniffle*

Sorry, your brief synopsis of The Notebook has me in tears. DANG that's a great movie. Thanks for reminding me. I had forgotten about it... ha!

  20. Keep your car keys with your wallet. Use one of those stretchy coil key chains (which you can find at Wal-Mart...but take your wallet!) and wrap your keys around your wallet when you get out of the car.

First time commentor on your blog. I'd love to adopt you. You're adorable!

  21. O, Sarah. I only wish I had some advice for you.
This is me on a just about daily basis. I am forever forgetting things. I am glad to know there are others out there like me.

  22. I totally blame multiple purses. I end up grabbing the standby and the accent and taking both along in the car. Then I just have to run back out to the car if I have forgotten something. Of course with 5 kids tagging along, that is not as easy as it sounds.
Not sure of how true it is, but I did hear ages ago that the sweetner in diet pop has "wood alcohol in it that contributes to short term memory loss. I just quit drinking it because I was having joint stiffness. (another side effect to the artificial sweetners)BUT, I know dropping the pop is not an option, so you better go with my first idea.
You'll have plenty of friends in the "Can't Remember Stuff" ward of the nursing home, so don't worry too much!
(Sorry your days were so crazy!!)

  23. The Notebook is the Best Movie ever made!

LOL~ that is the worst! I do stuff like that sometimes too!

  25. It's okay- you're just so focussed on taking care of everything when you're a mom that some of those "unimportant" things get left behind. Until you leave one of the boys behind, don't worry. I get in the truck and then have to go back in the house for something forgotten ATLEAST twice everytime I try to leave- yesterday it was 3 times! But the children were accounted for :)

  26. Stop watching the Olympics...nah! I was up until 2am watching the gynastics. I could not shut off the TV. Today.....space the final frontier all over again. Now that gymnastics is over, ending with complete bliss, and all my dreams of being an olympian played out on the gymnatstics floor, my family will have me back.

  27. Oh how relatable this is.It is SO frustrating too. It must be nice to know you aren't alone now though. :) So many great commenters to show you that at least you are in the same boat with alot of cool and fun people. :) I believe that brain cells are lost with each child you have. It has been true in my life... :)
