A Winner and a Baby

I want to say a HUGE thank you to all you who voted the other day on this post!

There is a little less than a week left and The University of Iowa Children's Hospital keeps bobbing back and forth between 3rd and 4th place...SO CLOSE! Each day you can vote up to 10 times, so please please pretty please keep on voting.

I mentioned a $5 Starbucks card to anyone who commented that they voted. I drew the number the super scientific way of having my 4 year old pick a number. He picked 6.

Ariane, YOU ARE THE WINNER!! YAY! Now email me at (lifeintheparsonage@gmail.com) with your address so I can mail it to you. :) Turns out, Ariane is a real life friend who I went to high school with AND youth group. She also married Ben's sister's husband's brother. Follow that? Yep...we go WAY back. She's also a mom who has spent much time at the very hospital we are voting for. Congrats Air!

In other news...and I'm just throwing this out there, but I should probably let you know that in April The Parsonage Family is due to grow by one more.

Yep, you heard me right. This time we're expecting and it's actually a baby...rather than a 17 year old Norwegian girl.

Pregnant. Preggo. Preggers. However you want to say it. We just told the boys and our church last weekend. News spreads like wildfire around these parts. I debated how long to hold off on the blog...12 weeks seems sufficient...plus I'm really good at confidentiality when it involves someone else...not so much when it involves myself.

To answer a few nagging questions I'm sure you have...or at least it's what everyone has been asking me.

1) Yes I am sick. Very sick. Zofran is my new best friend.

2) NO WE ARE NOT TRYING FOR A GIRL. It's the question everyone asks. It's as if they can't help themselves. When someone has 3 boys they are just compelled to say it. I am compelled to not give them my "you have got to be kidding me that you think I would try to have a baby given the 1% chance it might be a girl, and what the heck is wrong with 4 boys?!?" look. I'm working on it.

3) Everyone will have to wait till April to find out if it is a boy or girl.

4) The boys are ecstatic. Although Jake wants a boy and a girl...so he's just been telling everyone that we are having one of each. Good times when you live in a tiny town.

5) Julie will be here till the beginning of June, so she gets to be in on the whole ordeal!

6) Remember the 1/2 mary that I couldn't run because I was barfing? Yep...this was the barfing reason.

I think that pretty much covers it.

Phew! What a relief that it's out there now. *smile*

  1. Woohoo!!! I'm so excited for you! And when you say 'everyone will have to wait till April to find out boy or girl', do you really mean 'everyone' as in you aren't going to find out either? Boy or girl...what a blessing.

    Praying the barfing subsides soon!

  6. Yay! Congrats! My hubby is one of four boys, and his mom is awesome and it has been great, so don't worry one little bit about that! Plus, I've heard that one girl is like 4 boys!

  8. YAY!!!!! Awwww...I cannot keep saying "oh my goodness" over and over. CON-GRAT-ULATIONS :)
A lady in our church had her 4th boy last fall, and the popular question like you said was 'do you hope it's a girl' and besides being annoyed by the question, she really hoped it would be a boy....she had all the stuff :)
I thought that was a refreshing perspective.

Maybe someday people will ask me the same question :)
I am so happy for you :)

  14. Congratulations to you and your family!! I am so excited and happy for you. As soon as I read the first sentance about you being preggers...I immediately thought about your half-mary...and figured that's why you were so sick! I guess this is worth it. ;-)

    Babies are the best!

  15. SO exciting!!!!! and so funny - when you mentioned the barfing with the 1/2 mary I was like, "She's preggers...I know it!" AWwww, LOVE it! CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!

  16. Congratulations on the new baby, and I think four boys would be awesome! We have boys and girls in our family, and each brings their own wonderful characteristics to a family. If you really wanted a girl, not that you do, but if you did, just think of the Osmonds......okay, don't think of the Osmonds. Sorry about your sickness...not a fun thing, but at least you know its temporary.

God bless you and your family!
    Mary

  26. So excited for you all! Hey, if you do have twins you can answer like a friend of mine does when people ask if "all these kids are yours". "Yes, they are. We decided to stop when they started coming in multiples." Her #4 was #4 & #5!!

Hang in there with the puking...

  29. I am praying for a healthy baby for you. I do hope God blesses you with a girl though. Girls are such great encouragers to their moms. Atleast mine is. Kinda envying you though, always wanted another one. I don't think it will happen though. Love ya and take care of yourself. God's blessings for you and your family.

  30. Tears- tears of joy for you!!!! Yay for babies- so thrilled. And hope you feel much better soon. Isn't it wonderful and exciting that God knows just how the boy/girl ratio should work in our families and we don't have to decide that??!!

  31. Congrats on baby #4...as another pastor's wife (who also lives in the parsonage) and mom to 4 boys...I know that "were you hoping for a girl" comment all too well. I look at my sweet brown eyed boy and say "Nope!" I hope you have a safe, healthy pregnancy w/ a healthy sweet baby...

  34. just so you know I had 9 boys before we had a girl and we WEREN'T trying for a girl any of those times, God just choose to change our lives on #10. Whatever sex you get is already ordained by God and I always feel that we get the children, whether boy/girl, all girls all boys, that are perfect for us! Praying you feel better soon, been there done that 14 times! I'm so excited for you, what a special honor and blessing right from the hand of God himself!

  35. oh one more thing.....your friend that said "one girl is like four boys" is absolutely RIGHT! We now have two and OH MY GOSH boys are way easier, but I wouldn't trade my sweeties for ANYTHING they bring a whole new dimention to our family, and its been a good thing!

  36. YEH! Sarah that's so awesome. We just found out Rob's brother and sister in-law are pregnant to an she ALSO is on Zolfran. We also have a signal if I smell "too much" for her. (I wear B&BW lotion) she'll put her hand up to her nose and then we both laugh!
What wonderful news for you and your family and how COOL that Julie gets to be apart of it too.
Prayers and blessings for a healthy 28 more weeks!
Like how you worded "Everyone will have to wait until April to find out!" Very exciting!

  37. Oh, I just love it when someone is pregnant. Even people I only know through blogland! Congratulations!!
I've been voting everyday for Iowa Children's. I feel like I'm cheating on the children's hospital we've been at recenly, but they are so far down on the list. Their chances are slim to none. Hope your hospital makes it!

  38. Oh, Sarah - CONGRATS! This is seriously the best news I've heard all day!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Can't remember how I found your blog, but congrats!

With my first two, both girls, zofran was my bff too. Unfortunately it did nothing and I ended up hospitalized anyway.

My neighbor behind me also had the same problems.

[Did I mention all of us only have girls? ;o) ]

Now I'm preggers w/ #3 due in March... finally feeling great- was never as sick like the previous pregnancies! Hoping you find the relief sooner than later also and that people stop asking those kinds of silly questions!

  47. Congratulations!!!! I am so happy for you!

I haven't been pregnant so I don't have any great pregnancy-puking stories as many of your commenters have shared. However, I HAVE had the stomach flu any number of times, and would be HAPPY to recount those stories if you'd like... ;-) LOL!
